Wisdom College of Excellence (WICE) in Iwopin marked the 2025 World Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) Day with great enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of student-led entrepreneurship in national development. The school’s enterprise initiatives, including the WICE Farm Enterprise, WICE Financial Literacy Centre, and WICE Agroforestry Centre, were showcased during the event.
Empowering Student Entrepreneurs
Miss Agbojule Sinlate, CEO of WICE Enterprise, emphasized the need for more attention to student-led enterprise in schools. She noted that this initiative is designed to develop job readiness skills and equip students with the skills to start their own businesses. One student has already taken the leap, launching a successful graphics and digital marketing business. The school administrstor- Mr Sherif Abass used the opportunity to advocate for the inclusion of students-led enterprise into school curriculum. Our assessment revealed that our students are learning practical enterprenurship, business planning, money management, start up protocols, application of digital tools/devices in business management, digital marketing among others. We hope to see them establishing their own businesses in the future. It is also aiding our preparation for WAEC subjects such as Economics, Financial Accounting, Commerce, Computer studies among others.
Hands-on Learning Experience
The WICE enterprise programs provide students with practical experience in solving problems, skills for blue and green jobs, developing business plans, managing sales, tracking expenses, and creating value. By integrating environmental sustainability with economic thinking, WICE students are learning by doing and thriving in various entrepreneurial pursuits.
Call for Policy Support
WICE’s celebration of World SME Day aligns with the United Nations’ recognition of SMEs as drivers of economic growth, innovation, and job creation. The school is advocating for structured policy support to embed entrepreneurship in the school curriculum, nurturing problem-solvers, job creators, and leaders of tomorrow.
Building a Generation of Change-Makers
By investing in student-led enterprise, WICE is shaping the future of education and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on quality education, decent work, and economic growth.
