The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered & handed over ₦1,234,350,000 from Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited to the Enugu State Government over a breached contract for the construction of 22 smart schools in the state.
The handover took place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, following investigations triggered by a petition submitted to the Commission in February 2025. The petition alleged that Sujimoto received an advance payment of ₦2.29 billion for the project but failed to execute the work within the agreed timeline, which elapsed on January 2, 2025.
EFCC investigations established persistent non-performance & diversion of project funds, leading to the recovery of ₦1.23 billion so far. The company’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Olasijibomi Ogundele, was identified as jointly liable for the refund.
Speaking during the handover, the Enugu Zonal Director of the EFCC, CE Daniel Isei, representing the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said the recovery reflects the EFCC’s commitment to protecting public funds & ensuring restitution where economic crimes occur.
He warned contractors handling public projects to comply strictly with procurement laws, adding that the Commission would pursue full recovery of all unaccounted funds & proceed with prosecution where criminality is established.
Receiving the funds on behalf of the Enugu State Government, Onyia commended the EFCC for its professionalism, describing the recovery as a strong example of transparency & effective intergovernmental collaboration. #efcc #sujimoto #sijibomiogundele #maestromediablog #maestrolifestyl
