OOU To Graduate 147 First Class Students, Others At 35th Convocation Ceremonies

Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye is set to commence the activities marking its 35th Convocation Ceremonies for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.

According to a press release signed by Niyi Oduwole, the Deputy Registrar, Corporate Affairs Division, and made available to Gateway Times Nigeria, the Convocation Ceremonies are scheduled to take place from Thursday, 22nd to Saturday, 31st January, 2026 at the Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye, will feature series of events to be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Johnson Agboola. On Thursday, 22nd January, the activities will formally begin with a Press Conference at the University Senate Chamber at 11.00am. Also, at 2.00pm, there will be an Undergraduate (Graduating) Class Meeting with the Vice-Chancellor.

As part of the programmes lined up, a Health Walk for Staff and Students will hold on Friday, 23rd January at the Main Campus while a Special Jumat Service will take place at the As-Sujood Mosque of the University by 1.30pm. On Sunday, 25th January, a Convocation Service will take place at the Chapel of Abundant Life, Main Campus by 10.00am while the Vice-Chancellor’s Meeting with PhD Graduands and Musical Concert will come up on Monday, 26th January at the Senate Chamber and OGD Hall respectively. On Tuesday, 27th January, the Cultural Day and Convocation Play will be hosted, with the Agriculture and Engineering Show as well as Novelty Match fixed for Wednesday, 28th January.

The University will on Thursday, 29th January award Bachelor Degrees to graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Pharmacy and Social Sciences. The Convocation train will, on Friday, 30th January, confer degree awards on graduands from the Faculties of Administration and Management Sciences, Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Agricultural Production and Renewable Resources, Clinical Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies and Science.

The high point and grand finale of the Convocation Ceremonies will come up on Saturday, 31st January by 10.00am with the conferment of Postgraduate Degrees and Award of Prizes as well as the conferment of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science on Mr. Ayo Ojuroye, Founder, Optimus Bank and Chairman, Mango Asset Management. On same day, the Convocation Lecture entitled, “Repositioning Nigerian Universities as Innovation Hubs for Entrepreneurship and National Development” will be delivered by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani.

For the record, a total number of 5,808 graduands, including full-time students as well as those from the Centre for Continuing Education (CCED) and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes will convoke. The breakdown shows that there are 147 graduands that earned First Class; a total number of 2,051 in Second Class Upper Division; 2,927 in Second Class Lower Division while 571 others obtained Third Class. A total of 26 graduands had Pass degree, with 86 others Uncategorised.

The Visitor to the University and Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, is the Special Guest of Honour at this occasion which is expected to attract distinguished academics, government functionaries, captains of industry and eminent Nigerians from all walks of life.

The University Community and members of the public are hereby invited to participate in the ceremonies.
