“This bipartisan resolution expresses Senate support for the arbitrary recognition of Arunachal Pradesh’s status as an integral part of India, condemnation of China’s military aggression to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control, and further strengthening of the US-India strategic partnership and the Quad in support of Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” he said on Tuesday.

The decision, which follows a major conflict between India and China on the Eastern side along the Line of Actual Control in six years, reaffirms that the United States recognizes the McMahon Line as an international boundary between China and the Indian state of Arunachal. Pradesh.

The decision also pushed back against the claims of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) that Arunachal Pradesh is a PRC territory, which is part of the PRC’s aggressive and expansionist policies.

“American values ​​supporting freedom and rule-based order must be at the center of all our actions and relationships around the world, even as the PRC government pushes the alternative vision,” Merkley said.

“This decision makes clear that the United States views the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as part of the Republic of India – not the People’s Republic of China – and commits the US to deepen its support and assistance to the region, alongside interested international partners. and donors,” he said.

The separatist Senate resolution condemned China’s additional provocations, including the use of military force by the People’s Republic of China to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control, the construction of villages in contested areas, the publication maps with Mandarin names for cities and towns in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, and the expansion of PRC territorial claims in Bhutan.

Furthermore, the resolution commended the Government of India for taking steps to protect itself against aggressive and security threats from the People’s Republic of China. These efforts include securing India’s communications infrastructure; Analyzing your procurement processes and supply chains; implementation of investment monitoring standards; and expand its cooperation with Taiwan in public health and other sectors.
