The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, has called for stronger institutional partnerships to promote women’s empowerment, inclusive development and greater opportunities for women across the state.
The call formed a major part of the familiarisation visits undertaken by the new NAWOJ Executive Council, led by its Chairperson, Comrade Morenikeji Sobaloju, to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Secretariat of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA).
NAWOJ Chairperson stressed the importance of collaboration with organisations whose mandates align with women’s welfare and development, noting that women journalists can contribute significantly through advocacy, public enlightenment and effective communication of empowerment initiatives.
During the visit to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the Permanent Secretary, Barr. Adebimpe Obienu, pledged to include women journalists in the ministry’s empowerment programmes and other relevant activities, while expressing readiness to collaborate with the association.
Similarly, the Acting Chairperson of POWA, Ogun State, Mrs. Bolanle Oluremi Adeoye, assured the delegation of the association’s commitment to including women journalists in its programmes, including planned skills acquisition initiatives.
Comrade Sobaloju reaffirms the Association’s commitment to building meaningful relationships with relevant stakeholders to strengthen the professional capacity of women journalists and support initiatives that improve the lives of women and other vulnerable groups in Ogun State.
She said the association believes that sustained cooperation among government institutions, civil society organisations and the media is essential to advancing inclusive development and ensuring that women benefit from opportunities designed to improve their social and economic well-being.
