By June 9, 2026 Senator Solomon Adeola would have been representing the people of Ogun West senatorial district for three years in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly. For this ranking parliamentarian popularly called ‘Yayi’ by his admirers across board, his representation is nothing short of unprecedented on all scores, a fact that has been well documented not only across all media platforms but in tales told across international borders as an exemplar of what an ideal representation should be relative to the sometimes parlous deliveries of some legislators. His doings for the indigents and other persons have often been destiny changing and testimonies abounds in the public domain of his philanthropy.
But for majority of people of his present senatorial district and indeed Ogun State and elsewhere, Yayi is nothing but God sent to take Ogun State to a new level of inclusive and holistic development for the utmost good of the majority of the people. Not a few are amazed at the accomplishments he has delivered to Ogun West and other parts of Ogun State for the good of the people in three years as a senator of Ogun West.
In addition to performing his constitutional duties as a lawmaker and overseer of the executive arm of government, Senator Adeola has more than fulfilled all his campaign promises for the generality of the people through concise and cognate facilitations of massive infrastructural projects as well as mega empowerment that are contents for many viral videos on social media platforms.
For the record Senator Adeola has sponsored 16 legislative bills on the floor of the 10th Senate in the last three. His record in this functional area is in the category of highest first eleven among the 109 members of the 10th Senate. One of the bills for the upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to a University of Technology, Ilaro, has been passed by both Chambers of the National Assembly and signed into an Act of the National Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This effectively brings a first ever federal university into his district. Another bill to amend the over 50 years old Chartered Institute of Accountants in Nigeria, ICAN Act, has passed second reading and public hearing. It is awaiting passage by the Senate while another bill for the establishment of Federal College of Geological and Cement Studies Iselu, Yewa North has passed second reading and is ready for public hearing. And as the chairman of the Appropriation Committee, he has successfully midwifed three Appropriation Acts of 2024, 2025 and 2026 as well as amendment bill to 2025 Appropriation Act and two Supplementary Appropriation Bills.
On record also, Senator Adeola has moved 5 motions that were passed into Senate resolutions dealing with matters of local and national issues. One of such was the motion on the allegation against the Senate and the Presidency on 2024 Appropriation Act that led to a resolution briefly suspending Senator Abdul Ningi for about a month. Another was the re-opening of petrol stations along international border areas that is now being implemented to alleviate the hardship of Nigerians along borders areas.
But for the people of Ogun West Senatorial District and elsewhere in Ogun State, it is in the area of infrastructure development of great magnitude and multi-billion expenditure that the enduring impact of Senator Adeola are gleefully praised for making a great difference. Some of these projects are total restorations of projects abandoned and decrepit since execution in the time of late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo! As at three years in office as senator of Ogun West, Yayi has completed over 852 infrastructural projects that are in use across the 5 LGAs of Ado-Odo-Ota, Ipokia, Yewa South, Yewa North and Imeko Afon and in the two other senatorial districts of Ogun State.
These projects cannot be listed in a review here for their extensive numbers but suffice to note that they are always listed in the brochures of his empowerment programmes and not a few Ogun State indigenes and other residents can testify to seeing or indeed enjoying these visible projects. Of the numbers, 169 are domiciled in Ogun Central Senatorial district while 108 are in Ogun East Senatorial District. These projects in their numbers cut across construction of roads, school buildings, ICT Centres, primary healthcare centres and Intensive Care Units ICUs, modern markets, Police Stations, Townhalls, supply of transformers and solar street lights projects across communities numbering over 30,000 poles. At present, several other new projects are in various stages of completion while work is ongoing at advance stage on others like the critical Rounda-Olorunda- Imeko Road abandoned for years in a state of collapse and the 107 Kilometer Ilara-Ilase Road cutting across 4 out of 5 LGAs and over 20 major communities of the senatorial district.
Senator Adeola has also facilitated the donation of buses and minibuses numbering 74 over for such diverse groups as traditional rulers, Muslim and Christian groups, Market Women, tertiary institutions and other groups across the three senatorial districts of Ogun State. And in addition to construction of a couple of new Police Stations to boost security, he facilitated the donation of security vehicles for Police in Ilaro, Sango, Agbara, Imeko, Idiroko Area Commands as well as DSS and NSCDC, Ogun State Commands.
One may want to agree with some observers that notes poignantly that Ogun West in the last three years of Senator Adeola has had more variegated and evenly spread infrastructure development projects than it did through all administrations since the creation of the state over 50 years ago! That is how exceptional and impactful the last three years of Senator Adeola has brought to bear as a demonstration of good governance under a democracy and fulfilling the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Again, Senator Adeola has ensured personal impact and human resource development in Ogun West and beyond in the last three years in the form of facilitation of mega empowerment programmes that had touched no fewer than 50,0000 constituents directly. A resolute believer in touching lives directly, these facilitations often take the form of skills acquisition trainings for women and youths and subsequent empowerment for with multi-million-naira worth equipment and cash grants to start income generating self- employment. At the second town hall meeting and empowerment programme, some of the trainees in leather goods turned out with products that led Senator Adeola to promise the establishment of a complex dedicated solely for leather products in the senatorial district. For follow ups and future assistance, a record of all beneficiaries of the Senator’s empowerment are captured in programme brochures.
The senator has also facilitated cash grants for market women to assist them in their trades. During the first edition of the programme 5,000 women benefitted to the tune of N25,000 each with the money paid directly into their account. The second edition saw additional 10,0000 women benefitting from a N50,000 grant that extended to women in other markets in Ogun State beyond Ogun West Senatorial District. Similarly, 6000 farmers in clusters and individually were empowered with tractors, farm implements, improved seedlings and other inputs as well as cash grants.
In the educational sector and beyond the construction of school buildings that had increased classrooms to over 200, Senator Adeola scholarship and bursary awards facilitation in tertiary institutions to the tune N200,000 and N100,000 respectively has so far benefitted about 5,000 undergraduates. The process for another round of scholarships and bursary award for about 6,000 students is about being concluded by the Scholarship and Bursary Board headed by Professor Tope Popoola as I write. On religious level, Senator Adeola continues with goodwill gestures of massive gifts of rice, rams, cows and hampers during festive seasons as well as sponsorship of Muslims and Christians pilgrims to Holy Lands in their numbers. In the last three years Senator Adeola has sponsored over 500 Ogun State indigenes to Mecca, Saudi Arabia on Hajj and Christians to Jerusalem, Israel on pilgrimage respectively.
There is doubt that in the last three years as senator representing Ogun West, Senator Adeola has more than fulfilled all items on his campaign manifesto and promises he made while seeking office. Senator Adeola representation is nothing short of exceptional from all angles for a law maker. It is this exceptionalism in showing what good governance should look like that has made him the talk of the town across Ogun State. No doubt his developmental focus and impact may be largely responsible for his unprecedented and historical emergence as the consensus candidate for the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC for Ogun State governorship election in 2027 and his subsequent election through direct primary as the candidate of APC. There is no doubt that Ogun State indigenes believe a repeat of his doings in Ogun West as a senator is a good model for the whole Ogun State going forward. The remaining years of his representation promise to be more exceptional.
