Abiodun’s Wife, Bamidele Advocates Good Nutrition For Children
The Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has emphasized the need to consider the cognitive ability of children in their formative years, by providing good nutrition for them on daily basis, to reduce the high rate of malnutrition and mortality in children.
Mrs. Abiodun gave the advice at the launch of a new brand Cerelac Junior product, for children from three years and above, by Nestle Nigeria Plc, at the factory hall, Agbara Industrial Estate, Agbara, enjoining mothers to take cognisance of adequate nutrition for their children, particularly those under the age of five, for healthy growth and development.
She noted that adequate nutrition was needed for children from six months when the nutrients in the breast milk would no longer be adequate for the growth of the children, commending the Company for promoting the nutritional needs and reducing preventable deaths of newborn and children through its brand of products for children.
The Managing Director, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Mauricio Alarcon, in his welcome address, said the new cereal was targeted at meeting the specific nutritional needs of children from the age of three and above, explaining that 50 percent of death in children was as a result of malnutrition.
While informing that the new Formular was a complete meal, fortified with iron plus, for fast learning ability and good blood formation, to combat anaemia in children, Alarcon appreciated collaborative efforts of ministries of Health and Commerce at State and Federal levels, promising quality standard and continuous support for the healthcare of the people.
