Lekan Mustapha named DG, Odufowokan to coordinate public communications
“He’s the best for Spokesperson role,” APC Support Groups Council declares
The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections, placing experienced political figures in key positions as the ruling party moves to strengthen its campaign machinery across the state.
The campaign structure is led by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, while Senator Lekan Mustapha has been appointed Director-General of the campaign council.
In a significant communications appointment, Otunba Dare Odufowokan has been named Chairman of the Public Communications Committee, a position that places him at the heart of the campaign’s media, messaging and public engagement strategy.
The announcement comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and political actors increasingly focusing on how effectively they communicate their programmes, achievements and campaign promises to the electorate.
Odufowokan’s appointment has already attracted commendation from the APC Support Groups Council in Ogun State, which described him as the right choice for the communications assignment.
The council said Odufowokan was particularly suited for the role because of his experience in public communication, understanding of the Ogun political environment and capacity to articulate issues in a manner that resonates with the people.
‘He’s the best for the job’
Speaking on the development, the APC Support Groups Council said the appointment was timely, stressing that the campaign requires a communicator capable of presenting the party’s position clearly while responding effectively to emerging political narratives.
The group said Odufowokan’s background and experience would give the campaign an advantage in managing its public communication, particularly as the 2027 contest begins to take shape.
The Public Communications Committee is expected to serve as a major interface between the campaign organisation and the media, providing information on campaign activities, explaining policy issues and highlighting the achievements and programmes of the APC-led administration.
It is also expected to coordinate the party’s response to criticisms, allegations and competing political narratives that may emerge during the campaign.
Strategic structure
The emergence of the campaign council is seen as part of the APC’s broader effort to consolidate its political structures ahead of the elections.
With Governor Abiodun and Senator Yayi providing leadership at the top of the campaign structure, and Senator Mustapha taking charge of its day-to-day coordination as Director-General, the council brings together key party actors and political stakeholders.
The appointment of Odufowokan also signals the importance the party attaches to communications as the 2027 political season gathers momentum.
Political observers note that the ability of a campaign organisation to communicate consistently and effectively can significantly influence public perception, particularly in an increasingly digital political environment where narratives can spread rapidly across traditional and social media platforms.
Odufowokan’s communications role
As Chairman of the Public Communications Committee, Odufowokan is expected to coordinate the campaign’s messaging architecture and ensure that the party speaks with a coherent and consistent voice.
His responsibilities are expected to include media engagement, public information, campaign messaging, strategic communication and coordination with other communication-oriented structures within the party and campaign organisation.
The position also places him in a strategic role in presenting the APC’s case to voters and countering what the party considers misinformation or misleading narratives during the electioneering period.
The development is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the campaign organisation, journalists, media organisations, party supporters and the wider electorate.
Campaign machinery takes shape
The unveiling of the council marks another major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 elections in Ogun State.
The party is expected to activate its structures across the state’s three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies and 20 local government areas as the campaign progresses.
For the APC Support Groups Council, the appointment of Odufowokan represents an important piece of the emerging campaign structure.
The council maintained that with the right messaging, effective coordination and a strong grassroots network, the campaign organisation would be better positioned to communicate its agenda and mobilise support across the state.
As political activities continue to build towards 2027, attention will now shift to the activation of the campaign council and the strategies it will deploy to consolidate the APC’s political standing in Ogun State.
