Tunji Olowolafe: A Legacy of Excellence, Service and Impact

By Dr Benjamin Oluwatosin Olowojebutu

Today, our family celebrates Dr Tunji Olowolafe, an innovator, health enthusiast, philanthropist and newly conferred Honorary Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

For me, this honour is deeply personal. I celebrate him not merely as an accomplished professional, but as a nephew privileged to call him my uncle.

When a relative’s life becomes an example, his achievements a source of inspiration and his character a lesson, every recognition he receives becomes a moment of collective pride and thanksgiving.

Some people inherit opportunities; others create opportunities for themselves. Exceptional people create opportunities for others. My uncle belongs to that rare group.

His journey demonstrates that excellence and social responsibility can coexist. He understands that innovation is more than conceiving new ideas; it requires the courage and discipline to transform them into practical solutions. He has also shown that healthcare is ultimately not about hospitals, medicine or technology alone, it is about people and their right to live healthier, fuller lives.

Likewise, his philanthropy reflects more than financial generosity. It is about restoring hope, opening doors and giving people reasons to believe in their potential.

Behind the accolades is a man who values family, responsibility, service and legacy. That is why his Honorary Fellowship means more to us than another title. It recognises the character, sacrifice and years of purposeful work behind his accomplishments.

The true measure of his contribution, however, will not be found on a certificate. It lives in the people whose circumstances have improved because of him; the young people inspired by his example; the healthcare initiatives that have changed lives; and those who can say, “Someone believed in me.”

Money can be spent, buildings can deteriorate, awards can gather dust, and titles may become ordinary. Impact, however, endures. A life that transforms another creates a chain of influence capable of continuing across generations.

Within our family, Uncle Tunji has taught us to dream boldly, pursue excellence and remember the responsibilities accompanying success. Above all, he has shown us that the higher one rises, the more people one should lift.

No remarkable journey is travelled alone. We therefore also celebrate his wife and family, as well as the colleagues, friends and associates who have supported him through the years.

This Fellowship recognises his contributions, but I hope it also marks a new beginning. May God grant him greater strength, wisdom and opportunities to continue serving humanity. May his innovations create more solutions, his passion for healthcare inspire further progress, and his philanthropy transform many more lives.

Dr Tunji Olowolafe’s life carries a compelling message: excellence is possible, service matters, compassion matters, and success is most beautiful when it becomes a blessing to others.

Congratulations, Uncle, on this well-deserved Honorary Fellowship. Titles may tell the world what you have become, but the lives you have touched reveal who you truly are.

I am immensely proud to call you my uncle.
