By Tayo Oyekanmi

One of the basic necessities of life that anyone can’t do without is water.
Be you rich or poor, water is life.

The legendary iconic philosophical musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the late Abami Eda himself even drumed this home more in one of his evergreen tracks “Water No Get Enemy”.
The lyrics and lines even goes further to emphasize the utility of water. If you want to bath, if you want to cook, if you to wash, if your head is hot, when you have growing up child, you will need water, and even if water caused you personal tragedy, na still water you go use. Fela said there’s nothing you can do without water. . If you fight water, unless you don’t want to live again. That’s a fact.

Scientists even made it clear that anyone can survive without food for certain number of days. But not water. No one can do without it. That’s the inevitability and essentiality of water.
Water is life!

Back in 2003 electioneering campaign in Ekiti, most towns and villages were facing acute water sarcasity, the then aspirant Ayo Fayose saw this gap and fill it admirably. He got water tankers and started distribution of water to the people. He endeared himself to the people. The people love him greatly for his intervention and he was eventually rewarded with the Governorship seat. While water provision might not be the totality of what fetched him the Governorship, it indeed formed fulcrum and integral part of his ascension.

In the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo as Premier of Western Nigeria, water provision is always given the necessary priority. We still have his water reservoirs and tanks adorning our communities till date. The only challenge is lack of proper maintenance.

In Ogun State, during the reign of Aremo Segun Osoba as Governor he paid special attention to public water provision. Anytime there would be disruption of water flow particularly in Abeokuta metropolis, there would be announcements on state owned radio and television stations. Things and time might have changed.

It is in the light of this that one view and commend the latest intervention of provision of 60 boreholes across Ogun State by Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi in addition to the ones he had done before now. Those with borehole in the various homes might not fully appreciate nor comprehend what Sen Yayi is doing in this context but to the direct benefiaries, this is indeed laudable intervention that will everly be appreciated.

The even spread of these 60 boreholes across the State also reflect the innermost part of Yayi as a just man who intends to be fair to every part of the State as Govenor.

With Ogun West having 21, Ogun Central having 20 and Ogun East having 19, shows Yayi’s understanding of various issues plaguing Ogun State. Among the benefiting Townships and Communities Includes, Obasanjo Hilltop in Abeokuta, Bode Olude, Opeji, Ogijo Market, Igbore Community, Ibiade, Imakun, Ijado, Okere Maun, Bode Ase Ijofin, Ifonyintedo among others.

Most importantly the siting of these boreholes to area in need of such is also commendable. It demonstrate that Sen Yayi has a good grasp of what our people need to live life without too much stress with essentialities. Sen Yayi derives happiness in providing succour to the people. These Boreholes will be powered by requisite power plant (Generator) for maximum efficiency.

The people are just waiting for the election period to reciprocate his kind gesture having seen the sincerity of his heart..

Once again I say water no get enemy, if you fight am unless you want die as Fela said.
Thank you Sen Yayi on behalf of all benefitting communities, part of which my Ifonyintedo is one.
