The outgoing federal lawmaker representing the people of Ijebu North East, Ijebu Ode and Odogbolu local governments in the national assembly, Hon Kehinde Odeneye has charged undergraduates to shun cultism and other social vices which could hinder their educational career.
Odeneye made this call at a programme organised by a Non-Governmental Organisation, Future City in conjunction with the Student Union Government of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun near Ijebu Ode.
The lawmaker while addressing the mammoth crowd highlighted Indispline, peer influence and youthful exuberant as some of the bane of education in the country.
Odeneye stressed further that if students should eschew cultism and other related vices while paying strict attention to education, the journey to greatness would be guaranteed.
He recalled that he delved into politics out of his desire to give back to his community, charged the students to be more determined and focus in the pursuit of their studies if truly they would want to be great leaders in their respective studies.
According to him, “I’ve come to realise that my entrance into politics has better a lot of people beyond Ijebuland.
I have empowered close to 10,000 constituents in skill acquisition so far. And I will continue to do more as God wishes.”
Meanwhile, in his closing remarks, the lawmaker appealed to the students to be patient with the new government of Prince Dapo Abiodun, promising that the educational sector in the state would soon witness a dramatic turnaround in line with the electoral agenda of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Highlight of the event included the award of scholarship to two undergraduates of the institution.
